Scriptures of Hope & Comfort

healingtouchI offer these scriptures “as is” – not with any promise or expectations.  I hope they will resonate with all who read them.  For most of the Biblical scriptures, they are presented twice, first from the Inspired Version, and then from the NRSV.

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord…” –Jeremiah 30:17 (IV)

“And they were healed by the power of the Lamb of God” –1st Nephi 3:85

“For the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.” -1st Nephi 6:43

“For the Lord shall comfort Zion”

Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. -2nd Nephi 13:29

“And shall go forth amongst men, working mighty miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk, the blind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear, and curing all manner of diseases” –Mosiah 1:98

“And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works” -Alma 5:41

109 O Lord, will you give me strength, that I may cope with my infirmities? For I am infirm, and such wickedness among this people pains my soul.
110 O Lord, my heart is exceedingly sorrowful; will you comfort my soul in Christ?
111 O Lord, will you grant unto me that I may have strength, that I may suffer with patience these afflictions…
112 O Lord, will you comfort my soul, and give me success, and also my fellow laborers who are with me…even all these will you comfort, O Lord? Will you comfort their souls in Christ?
113 Will you grant unto them that they may have strength, that they may bear their afflictions which shall come upon them?
114 O Lord, will you grant unto us that we may have success in bringing them again unto thee, in Christ?
115 Behold, O Lord, their souls are precious, and many of them are our near brethren, therefore, give unto us, O Lord, power and wisdom, that we may bring these, our brethren, again unto thee.
116 Now it came to pass, that when Alma had said these words…
117 …they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
118 And after that…
119 …the Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst;  and he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ.
120 Now this was according to the prayer of Alma; and this because he prayed in faith.  –Alma 16 (adapted)

49 And ye shall offer up unto me no more the shedding of blood; yea, your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings; and ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. -3rd Nephi  4:49

“I have heard your prayers which have been raised to me without ceasing, and I have sent my healing ministry as a dove to be in your midst. Therefore, lift up your hearts and rejoice in the promises which have been given for your assurance.”

“Search the scriptures for the Living Word that brings life, healing, and hope to all. Embrace and proclaim these liberating truths.” –Section 164:6c.
